Introduction

At Cappagh Browne, the role of an Environmental Advisor is as varied as it is impactful. Tristen’s daily responsibilities balance fieldwork, strategic planning, and collaboration, all with the goal of ensuring compliance and environmental responsibility. Managing projects across Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight, his work spans both planned and reactive tasks. Here’s an insight into his critical contributions.

Enabling Works

Before construction can commence, Tristen ensures all necessary mitigations and approvals are secured. While desktop studies provide valuable initial insights, on-site visits often reveal the full scope of environmental conditions. Collaborating with ecologists and arborists, Tristen works closely with regulatory bodies such as Natural England and the Environment Agency to navigate constraints. For complex projects, he prepares CEMPs and Waste Management Plans to address potential challenges proactively.

Client & Stakeholder Collaboration

Strong partnerships are essential to every project’s success. Tristen regularly engages with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to align on methodologies, ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and champion sustainable practices. This ongoing collaboration fosters clear communication and shared accountability throughout the project lifecycle.

Site Audits & Incident Management

Through comprehensive site audits, Tristen ensures pollution risks are minimised, materials are safely stored, and waste management practices are robust. Any issues identified during audits are addressed in collaboration with project managers, supervisors, and engineers, with Tristen providing practical solutions ranging from sustainable material recommendations to alternative waste disposal methods.

In the event of an environmental incident or near-miss, Tristen leads investigations, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Carbon Monitoring

Tracking Cappagh Browne’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is another critical part of Tristen’s role. Using the Sustain IQ platform, he monitors Scope 1-3 emissions and works with the supply chain to develop strategies for reduction, helping the company progress towards its Net Zero target.

Environmental Progression

Back at the office, Tristen Parker plays a pivotal role in shaping Cappagh Browne’s environmental strategies, as we work towards achieving Net Zero operational emissions by 2030.

Tristen’s work includes researching innovative technologies and identifying practical opportunities to reduce emissions across our fleet and equipment. One standout initiative is his leadership in transitioning our fleet to low-emission and electric vehicles, where he evaluates the environmental benefits of these changes.

In addition, Tristen collaborates closely with our operations teams on carbon offsetting projects, including tree planting and habitat restoration, which form part of our broader insetting efforts.

Training & Toolbox Talks

Sustainability begins with education. Tristen leads workshops and toolbox talks to engage employees in environmental best practices, covering topics such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, and spill prevention. His aim is to empower the workforce to make sustainability an integral part of everyday operations.

Driving Impact, Every Day

For Tristen, every day presents an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the environment. His work ensures Cappagh Browne’s operations are compliant, sustainable, and forward-thinking.

With ambitious carbon reduction targets and a company-wide commitment to sustainability, Tristen’s role is a testament to the difference that dedicated individuals can make.
